Menningar- og minningarsjóður kvenna invites applications for scholarships in 2016.

This year, the foundation will award scholarships to immigrant women who don’t speak Icelandic as a first language, and are enrolled in an Icelandic secondary school to acquire vocational qualifications or are studying for a degree at an Icelandic university.

The applicant shall enclose a short essay on why she should receive the scholarship, as well as information about the study program and timetable for its progress. The applicant shall also submit official confirmation of admission from the school.

Menningar- og minningarsjóður kvenna will award 700.000 ISK in scholarships in 2016. The board reserves the right to determine the number of beneficiaries. For further information, contact the offices of the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association by phone 551-8156 or by e-mail: mmk[@]krfi.is.

The application deadline is 5 September 2016.

Scholarship awards will be announced on 27 September 2016 and all applications will be answered.

Menningar- og minningarsjóður kvenna was established in 1941 in memory of Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir. The foundation’s primarily role is to encourage women to study, both in Iceland and abroad with scholarships and travel grants. Furthermore, to give grants to women to write or awards essays, especially on social issues relating to women’s interests. Grants from the fund are awarded once a year.
